Liquid membrane waterproofing has traditionally been carried out using bituminous products. This is now being replaced by polyurethane and methyl methacrylate based products principally for their rapid speed of cure.
Liquid membranes are applied to the concrete deck ideally to provide a seamless waterproof detail prior to the road surface or track ballast being laid.
The above systems are now considered costly and disruptive with elastomer gel injection systems from M C Building Chemicals being considered as a more modern approach to waterproofing of bridge decks as all work is carried out from below the deck with product being injected to form a flexible, continuous membrane without the need to lift track or road surfaces.
Hundreds of structures throughout Europe and in the UK have been waterproofed with the M C Building Chemicals elastomer gel injection system with great success.
